New ships are only half the story. Every season, lines move ships between regions, open new homeports and add ports and private destinations. Here is how new itineraries come about and a few examples announced for 2026 and 2027.
Where New Itineraries Come From
A new ship arrives
Its maiden season is planned around showcase routes, and an older sister often moves elsewhere.
A new homeport opens
A line bases a ship in a new city, giving local cruisers a drive-to option.
A new destination is added
Private islands, beach clubs and new ports appear on itineraries.
A line enters a new region
Smaller lines in particular expand into Alaska, Asia or polar waters.
Examples Announced for 2026–2027
- Explora Journeys in Alaska: the line has announced its first Alaska season for 2027, with Explora III.
- Explora Journeys in the Caribbean: Explora III sails from San Juan and Miami from December 2026.
- Legend of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale: after its Mediterranean debut, the ship sails Caribbean cruises from Port Everglades from November 2026.
- Disney in Singapore: Disney Adventure sails short cruises round trip from Singapore.
- Port Canaveral additions: Carnival Festivale and MSC World Atlantic are both announced for Port Canaveral in 2027.
- Oceania Sonata’s maiden season: the Mediterranean in 2027, then a winter based in Miami.

Dates change. New ships are sometimes delivered late and debut seasons get rearranged. Everything here was checked against cruise line announcements and trade reports in October 2026; confirm the current schedule before you book.
How to Evaluate a New Itinerary
- Read it the way you would any itinerary: ports, times, sea days and where it ends. Our sister site Cruise Ship Itineraries explains how.
- Check whether new ports are docked or tendered.
- Look for reviews of new ports from other lines that already call there.
- Plan excursions early, since new ports may have fewer tour options at first; Shore Activities lists tours worldwide.
Why Lines Change Itineraries
Deployment decisions reflect demand, port capacity, new private destinations, fuel and the arrival of new ships. When a line reshuffles, a ship you know may appear in a new region, and familiar homeports may gain or lose sailings. Following these moves helps you spot a new option close to home.
